What is Biochemistry, and what do biochemists study? What is covered in this field, as opposed to Molecular Biology or Cell Biology? The truth is, there’s a lot of overlap in these disciplines. But in general, biochemistry is the study of the chemistry of life.

What’s so special about the molecules of life? It’s a case of emergent properties. When biochemical molecules interact, unexpected complexities arise. Phospholipids form the bilayers found in cells. These compartments allow for high concentrations of chemical reactions to take place, leading to...life. The four main types of biological molecules studied by biochemists are proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and nucleic acids. This video briefly introduces these topics, and each one will be covered in more depth in their own videos.
