Strontium is the chemical element with atomic number 38 and chemical symbol Sr. It does not occur as a free element, but rather in minerals in compounds. When isolated, strontium is a silvery-grey metal which is extremely reactive. The isotope strontium-90 is known as a dangerous radioactive product of nuclear fallout, which can substitute for calcium in bone and thus stay in the body.
