Nobelium is the chemical element with atomic number 102 and chemical symbol No. Nobelium is not a naturally occurring element. Scientists at the Nobel Institute of Sweden believed they had synthesized an isotope of this new element in 1957, and named it "Nobelium" after Alfred Nobel. They were mistaken, however, and a year later scientists at UC Berkeley successfully completed the synthesis. They kept the name Nobelium. Nobelium is a metal in the actinide series, and is predicted to be silvery-white or grey in appearance.
