Boron is the chemical element with atomic number 5 and chemical symbol B. Boron is very reactive and is mainly found in minerals on Earth. One well known borate mineral is Borax, a white crystal first discovered in dry Tiben lake beds. Borax was used in China to give ceramics a hard glaze. The element Boron receives its name from Borax since the mineral was known long before the element was first isolated in 1808.
