Brønsted–Lowry acid–base theoryBrønsted–Lowry acid–base theory

The Brønsted–Lowry acid–base theory defines an acid as a substance that can easily donate protons and a base as substance that accepts protons. This is an update from the Arrhenius theory, which involved acids and bases dissociating in water to create H+ ions (in the case of acids) and OH- ions (in the case of bases).
