Pablo Picasso (1881 – 1973) was a Spanish artist who explored a variety of different styles and media. He is perhaps best known for his paintings, which evolved in style through different periods in Picasso's life. His earliest works were realistic. Later in life, his paintings became more symbolic and abstract. Picasso's work is commonly grouped into "periods," including his "Blue Period" and "Rose Period." Picasso is credited with helping to create new styles of art, including Cubism, and expanding forms of media, including collage and constructed sculpture (assemblage).
