Antoine BalardAntoine Balard

Antoine Balard (1802 – 1876) was a French chemist best known as one of the discoverers of the chemical element bromine (Carl Jacob Löwig also isolated bromine, but Balard was the first to publish). He also was Louis Pasteur's mentor, and Pasteur was the first to identify chiral, or "right-handed" and "left-handed" versions of a molecule, while working in Balard's lab.
